What to look for in ABA data collection software
Good ABA data collection software captures every data type your programs use (DTT, probes, frequency, duration, ABC), graphs it with phase lines, works offline, and handles supervision, HIPAA and billing to the level your clinic needs, at a price model that fits your caseload.
Every product on this page can record a discrete trial. The differences show up at the edges: the duration program that only times one behavior at once, the tablet that loses a session when the Wi-Fi drops in a family’s home, the graph that cannot show a phase change. Bring two real programs from your caseload to every demo and run them start to finish on the vendor’s app.
Two data rules apply whatever you buy. Operational definitions have to be clear enough that two people would score the same response, and you check that with interobserver agreement (our free IOA calculator works out all nine methods). And a graph is only as good as the decisions it supports, so look at how fast a BCBA can spot a stalled target.
- Data types
- DTT trial by trial with prompt levels, cold probes, frequency and rate, duration and latency, interval recording, and ABC narrative data. Task analysis scoring if you teach chains.
- Graphing
- Graphs that update during the session, with phase lines, condition labels and mastery criteria you set per target.
- Offline mode
- Home and community sessions often lose signal. Raven Health, ABA Matrix and the CentralReach mobile app list offline use.
- Billing and EVV
- Authorizations, claims and electronic visit verification. Essential for a US insurance-funded clinic; irrelevant for many schools and most of Europe.
- Supervision
- Supervision hours, fidelity checks and IOA in the same place as the data, so RBT supervision requirements are easy to document.
- Security
- HIPAA with a signed business associate agreement (BAA); for EU or UK learners, GDPR and where the data is hosted.
- Price model
- Per learner (Motivity), per client with unlimited staff (Raven Health) or per user. Model it on your real caseload and staff count.
The seven ABA software platforms, one by one
CentralReach and Rethink are the large all-in-one platforms; Motivity and Raven Health are the ones with public prices; Ensora ABA Data Collection (formerly Catalyst by DataFinch) is a data tool with VB-MAPP built in; Theralytics and ABA Matrix aim at small and mid-size US practices.
Each summary uses only what the vendor shows on its own site, app store listing or press releases as of November 2026. Where a feature is not listed, we say so rather than assume it is missing. Ask in a demo.
- CentralReach
- Calls itself an AI-powered EMR for autism and IDD care and says 4,000 ABA and multidisciplinary practices trust it. The CR Mobile App handles session data, offline use, AI-assisted notes and EVV, and is rated 4.6 from 652 App Store ratings. A suite of AI tools covers scheduling, notes and claims. No public pricing. We compare it with SuperChild in detail in CentralReach vs SuperChild.
- Rethink (Rethink Behavioral Health)
- Data collection, analytics, scheduling, practice management, ABA billing and ParentHub, plus newer AI products for billing and session notes. Serves clinics and school districts, and shows HIPAA and HITRUST CSF badges. No public pricing.
- Motivity
- Real-time data collection, program building and progress reports, with scheduling, billing, authorizations, credentialing and revenue cycle management available. Development was funded by NIMH research awards. Public prices: $26 per learner a month for data collection, $24 for practice management, $50 for all-in-one, on a 12-month standard agreement with a month-to-month option.
- Ensora ABA Data Collection (formerly Catalyst by DataFinch)
- datafinch.com now redirects to Ensora Health (formerly Therapy Brands). The product records in-person session data and has had the VB-MAPP integrated since 2022; it also integrates with AlohaABA for practice management. A per-client price appears in third-party listings, but we could not confirm one on Ensora’s own pages.
- Raven Health
- Built for new and growing ABA providers: mobile-first data collection with offline mode and real-time sync, treatment plans, graphing, scheduling and claims, plus AI session notes drafted from trial data. Platform is $29 per client a month with unlimited staff licences and a $500 implementation fee; Platform Pro starts at $69. Concierge plans hand billing to Raven for 5% or 7% of claims paid. Annual contract.
- Theralytics
- Practice management for small ABA practices: scheduling, billing, data collection and documentation, according to its Capterra listing. The vendor’s pricing page was not reachable when we checked, so we list no price.
- ABA Matrix
- From Hex Matrix: data collection with live graphs, treatment plans, supervision, billing through ClaimMD, payroll, EVV, an offline data collection app and a caregiver portal. Available only in the United States. No public pricing; offers a 14-day trial.
ABA software pricing: what is public in 2026
As of November 2026, only Motivity ($24 to $50 per learner a month) and Raven Health ($29 per client a month plus a $500 implementation fee, or from $69 for Platform Pro) publish prices; CentralReach, Rethink, Ensora, Theralytics and ABA Matrix quote on request.
For a 10-learner caseload, Motivity’s data collection plan comes to $260 a month and Raven Health’s Platform to $290 a month plus the one-time $500 fee. At that size the gap between the two is small; the bigger difference is what each includes and the contract term (Motivity’s standard agreement is 12 months with a month-to-month option; Raven Health’s plans are annual).
Pricing per learner or per client favors clinics with many staff per learner (Raven Health includes unlimited staff licences). Per-user pricing does the opposite. When a vendor quotes, ask for the total at your current caseload and at double it, and whether implementation, training and data export cost extra.
Best ABA data collection software by clinic size and use case
Solo BCBAs and new clinics usually fit Raven Health, Motivity or Theralytics; growing insurance-funded clinics that need payroll and EVV can look at ABA Matrix or Motivity All-In-One; large and multi-site groups usually shortlist CentralReach and Rethink.
Funding matters more than size. A US clinic billing Medicaid and commercial insurance needs authorizations, claims and often EVV, while a school, a private-pay practice or a European home program may need only good data and graphs.
- 1Solo BCBA or consultantStart with paper or our free ABA data sheets and graph maker until your caseload justifies software. When it does, a per-learner tool with a public price (Motivity or Raven Health) keeps costs predictable.
- 2New clinic, under about 25 learnersRaven Health and Motivity both publish prices and include data collection with optional billing. Raven Health’s managed billing (a share of claims) suits owners who would rather not run revenue cycle in-house.
- 3Growing clinic with payroll and EVVABA Matrix lists billing, payroll and EVV in one system for US agencies; Motivity All-In-One adds credentialing and revenue cycle management. Ensora ABA Data Collection suits teams that want VB-MAPP inside data capture and already use AlohaABA.
- 4Large or multi-site group, or a school districtCentralReach and Rethink are built for scale, with analytics, AI documentation and (for Rethink) school-district products. Expect a custom quote and a longer implementation.
- 5Any size, when learners need more practiceWhatever you pick for session data, independent practice between sessions is a separate job. That is where SuperChild fits, alongside your platform.
Where paper data sheets and free ABA tools still fit
Paper data sheets and free tools still make sense for a solo BCBA, a parent-implemented program, a school team without an ABA platform, and as a backup when the app is down; the trade-off is hand graphing and late data.
Plenty of good ABA runs on clipboards. Paper costs nothing, works offline by definition, and every RBT knows it. What it costs is time: someone has to total the sheets, graph them and file them, and the BCBA sees the data days later instead of during the session.
Free tools close part of that gap. Print the sheet your program needs, graph the totals in a minute, and check agreement between two observers before you trust a new definition. If your team is studying for the exam, our RBT practice test covers measurement and data collection too.
ABA data collection software vs practice software for learners
ABA data collection software records the trials an RBT runs. Learner practice software like SuperChild adds independent practice on the targets the BCBA assigns and records those trials itself, so clinics use the two side by side.
Every platform above is built around an adult running the session and tapping the data. That is the right design for table-time, NET and behavior reduction, and SuperChild leaves all of it to your platform. It has no in-person DTT capture by an RBT, billing, scheduling, payroll, EVV, insurance claims or assessment scoring.
What none of the seven lists on its site (as of November 2026) is practice the learner does on their own. A new tact or listener response can take hundreds of trials to master, and a 3-hour session only holds so many. SuperChild gives the learner short 5 to 20 minute tablet blocks on the targets you choose, so practice continues on days without a session. See how it works.
